Chay Yew's directing credits include The Architecture of Loss (New York Theatre Workshop); Citizen 13559 (Kennedy Center); LOW (Actors Theatre of Louisville); 36 Views (Portland Center Stage, Geva Theatre Center and Laguna Playhouse); Frozen, The Laramie Project and Strange Attractors (Empty Space); M. Butterfly, Golden Child, Sisters Matsumoto and Big Hunk o' Burnin' Love (East West Players); Sex Parasite, Question 27, Question 28 and Rice Boy (Mark Taper Forum); The House of Bernarda Alba (National Asian American Theatre Company); Red (Singapore Repertory Theatre and East West Players); The Winchester House and A Winter People (Theatre at Boston Court); Last of the Suns (Ma Yi Theatre Company); A Beautiful Country (Cornerstone Theatre Company); Eyewitness Blues (Gala Hispanic Theatre); Gum (University of California, San Diego); and Home: Places Between Asia and America (Northwest Asian American Theatre). He has also directed solo performances such as Sandra Tsing Loh's Depth Becomes Her, Margeret Cho's Mondo Cho, and Alec Mapa's I Remember Mapa and Drama! (Taper): James Sie's Talking With My Hands (Northwest Asian American Theatre); Alec Mapa's Pointless (East West Players); Brian Freeman's Civil Sex (Talk and Squawk); Denise Uyehara's Maps of Body and City (Highways Performance Space); David Schmader's Straight (Theatre Rhinoceros, Highways and NWAAT). His opera credits include the world premieres of Osvaldo Golijov's Ainadamar (coproduction with Tanglewood Music Center, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and Los Angeles Philharmonic) and Rob Zuidam's Rage D'Amours (Tanglewood). He has also directed new play readings for O'Neill Playwrights Conference, New Dramatists, Hartford Stage Company, Joseph Papp Public Theatre, A.S.K. Theatre Projects and Ojai Playwrights Conference. Upcoming productions include Durango at Long Wharf Theatre and the Public Theater this fall. An alumnus of New Dramatists, he also serves on the board of directors on Theatre Communications Group and the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers.
Divine Dime Entertainment [Producer]
Founded in the fall of 1999, Divine Dime Entertainment, produces quality music, theatre and events that engage the experiences of the global diaspora and foster communal empowerment, creativity and social responsibility. DDE projects and productions include Soulah Vibe, the debut album by Rha Goddess, co-written and produced by BWhiz, N8tive Sun and Entrified; Rha Goddess and The Cipher performance series featuring Emi Augustin, Djbril Toure, Ramsey Jones, Ron Fletcher, Andy Suh, Nikki Guilard and Anisah Fujah on vocals; Legacy and Stay True, musical collaborations with Craig Wall; writing, arranging and producing collaborations for the Kenyan based project, Kilo Cha Haki (A Cry for Justice); and Meditations With The Goddess, a trilogy written and performed by Rha Goddess.
