David Roussève/REALITY

David Roussève and his company of dancers articulately share their experience with postmodern and world dance forms in a variety of technique and composition classes.

Composition with David Roussève
David Roussève's work fuses text, movement, and visual imagery to create a deep dialogue with the viewer.  This composition workshop encourages students to explore unique ways of developing vocal and movement material and of layering the material together. Towards developing their own choreographic voices, students are encouraged to think of the fundamentals of choreography-space, time, vocabulary-but to use them in surprising ways.

When visiting a community for several days, the company can offer a week of daily classes to share the various cultural forms performed in Saudade. Through the juxtaposition of these world dance techniques, participants gain special insight into the through-lines created by approaching the same emotional and spiritual content from different physical perspectives. What does it mean to honor each of these idioms and not simply try to fuse them into a unified vocabulary?

Classes taught by the company
Postmodern (Nehara Kalev, Taisha Paggett)
West African (Esther Baker-Tarpaga, Olivier Tarpaga)
Bharata Natyam (Anjali Tata)
Indonesian (Sri Susilowati)
Dance for Camera (Marianne Kim)

Rousseve and his company, all choreographers in their own right, are also available for critical feedback sessions with local choreographers and dance students.
