Baba Israel

Leo Kay (Director/Deviser) Leo is Artistic Director of Unfinished Business, which he established in 2010. Prior to that Leo has been a freelance director, performer, teacher and facilitator for the past twenty years. He is a specialist in creating powerful theatrical performance with spoken word artists, both on a large interdisciplinary scale and for more intimate and interactive contexts. He works in a variety of community settings and is renowned for his work with hard to reach young people, inspiring creative work which bridges the gap between adolescence and adulthood.


Leo has a longstanding creative relationship to Brazil and spent an extended period developing work in Salvador working with leading choreographers from Brazil’s northeast region. Over the past five years he has produced many of his own performance projects, exploring intimacy, interaction and response to site.


Yako Prodis, Yako 440 (Musical Director/Performer/Deviser) is a musician, producer, graffiti writer, and graphic designer:  a true-school multi-media Hip Hop artist. His skill set includes human beatbox, turntables, bass, guitar, keys + drums. In 6 continents, this sonic arsenal has been put to use performing with MC/beatboxer/theater artist Baba Israel + improvisational Hip Hop theater troupe Playback NYC. He is also a scholar with his Master of Fine Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Arts from Goddard College. Mr. Prodis has led music and visual art workshops with all age groups since 2000 throughout the NYC area and cities all over the world. He has toured extensively as a musician with Baba Israel, DJ Logic and others throughout the U.S. and to such places as: Australia (Big Day Out Festival); New Zealand (One Love Festival); Czech Republic (Hip Hop Kemp); Germany; England; and Holland (Lowlands Festival). He has been a musician and sound designer for theatre, including How To Break (Aaron Jafferis) and Boom Bap Meditations (Baba Israel).


His work as a performing multi-instrumentalist for Playback NYC (an improvisational Hip-Hop theater group that does community-based shows in hospitals, prisons, schools), he traveled to Sao Paolo Brazil’s International Playback Theater Conference, and London’s World Work Conference to perform. In 2010 Yako was selected as Cultural Envoy for a 12 day Hip Hop cultural exchange tour with the US Embassy. There he led workshops, recording sessions and performances throughout the capital city Banjul, The Gambia, West Africa.


Richard Ramchurn (Video Artist) is Director of UK-based creative agency Albino Mosquito, Ramchurn specializes in creating digital content and delivering AV design for theatre, music videos, documentaries, app development, viral marketing campaigns and animations and gallery installations.


Talvin Wilks (Dramaturg) is a playwright, director and dramaturg. His plays include Tod, the Boy, Tod; The Trial of Uncle S&M; Bread of Heaven; and An American Triptych. He has worked extensively on archival and oral history projects with Ping Chong, Bebe Miller and Carmen de Lavallade, among many others.
